I find it interesting to see what the store sells from month to month.  So, as we reach a new one, we’ll take a look back and see what the hot books were and post them up here.  Let’s start!

For July 2010,

1. Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese
2. Buddha in your Mirror by Woody Hochswender et al
3. Yosemite Road Guide by Bill Dengler et al
4. Complete Guidebook to Yosemite by Steven Medley
5. Geology Underfoot in Yosemite National Park by Allen Glazner
6. Girl who Played with Fire by Steig Larrson
7. Lies My Teacher Told Me by James W. Loewen
8. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Steig Larrson
9. Food Rules by Michael Pollan
10. Yosemite: An Enduring Treasure by Keith S. Walklet

Thoughts:

1. Cutting for Stone was big in our local bookclubs this past month, so no big surprise to see it at #1.  It’s also been moving pretty rapidly in the store.
2. We had several local Buddhists in the store one weekend in July to have an event to discuss Buddha in your Mirror, so it’s nice to see that we had sold several copies of this over the month.
3. Tourists are a major part of our summer business, and this inexpensive road guide seems to be quite popular…
4. …as is Medley’s guide to the park.
5. This is a new title we just started carrying last month, and seems to have been a good choice!
6. The Larrson train rolls on…this hasn’t stopped selling, truth be told.
7. Lies has been a tremoundous seller this summer, which is a little shocking considering it’s not a new book.  I’m happy that it’s doing so well, as I adored it!
8. See #6.  It’s pretty crazy how much these took off.
9. Pollan has a solid fanbase in Mariposa, and Food Rules has been a steady seller since it came out.
10. Lastly, Walklet’s beautiful book on the park has been a constant tourist buy.
